Ullapool stepped into the New Year wrapped in a thick layer of snow, as a blast of Arctic air swept down across the Highlands. The shift in weather brought dramatic conditions — slippery roads, swirling snow showers, and that familiar sense of Highland togetherness that always appears when the elements turn fierce.
The Met Office reported that this cold front pushed south from New Year’s Eve into New Year’s Day, dragging temperatures sharply down and delivering strong northerly winds. With snow and ice warnings in place, northern Scotland — the Highlands included — was singled out as one of the areas most likely to see repeated, heavy snow showers and travel disruption.
